Dare Me is a darkly seductive drama about best friends and high school cheerleaders Addy Hanlon and Beth Cassidy, based on Megan Abbott’s novel of the same name.
When new cheer coach Colette French appears on the scene, their friendship, which was once thick as thieves, becomes strained.
Colette bewitches Addy, also known as Hanlon, and the two soon find themselves harboring secrets from one another. When Colette leads the youngster into the murder of Sarge Will, who was slain in his apartment, their relationship becomes more intense.
We learn that Colette and her husband Matt were connected after season one, but we don’t know what transpired on the night of his death.
Beth is eager to show Colette’s participation in Will’s death, despite her disdain for the new coach and Hanlon’s obsession with her. However, she runs the danger of exposing her best buddy if she follows that route.
Will it return for season two, with so many things left unsolved at the end of season one?
Everything you need to know is right here.
Is There a Release Date for Season 2 of Dare Me Yet?
Dare Me was apparently canceled in April, with USA Network purportedly shifting its focus from fiction to reality programming.
That isn’t to say we haven’t seen the last of it. “Universal Content Productions will pitch the coming-of-age/small-town drama/murder-mystery combo to other channels,” according to The Hollywood Reporter, so there’s still hope for the series.
However, it has been a year since the cancellation was revealed, and it is more doubtful that Netflix would make up the production bill on its own.
That’s despite some more rays of optimism from, of all places, the official Netflix Helps Twitter account in January 2021.
Dare Me was a tremendous hit for the streaming service, although they didn’t fund it as a co-producer; they merely distributed it.
This might have had a role in the show’s cancellation by the USA Network. It’s a curious choice to cancel a program that’s as popular with critics as it is with viewers, with good reviews consistently placing the series in Netflix’s top 10 most popular shows since its debut.
However, the show’s popularity may have prompted the network to play its cards a bit too soon when it came to conversations regarding the show’s financial future. They may have assumed that because it was so profitable for Netflix, the streaming service would not want to let it go. Of course, this is just conjecture, but we can’t help but try to answer this perplexing puzzle.
After all, Universal Content Productions was so confident in the notion that it said it would be distributing the murder mystery to other sources right away. No one has accepted the bait thus yet, which is a shame.
Perhaps Dare Me’s gloom is what’s keeping other networks at bay. “When you hear a show is about cheering, you have so many expectations you bring in, like Bring It On, which is completely not this show,” said star Willa Fitzgerald (via EW).
“When I initially read the screenplay, I was struck by how intricate, messy, nasty, and magnificent the ladies were. There’s a lot of discussion on the darker side of human nature. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this really complex and oppressed female protagonist.”
“We didn’t want to make anything simpler to make it more digestible,” said showrunner Abbott. “We wanted it to be chaotic and sometimes ugly because the ugliness of these complex sentiments and emotions has a beauty to it.” That was something we never wanted to compromise on.
“We also didn’t want it to come down to tropes like the cruel girl or the dumb girl, or any other high school clichés.”
Of course, TV viewers enjoy gloom, which explains the show’s appeal, but networks often require a bit more persuasion, especially when a series has already been canceled. But let’s hope that some streaming provider sees the light soon, for the more we wait, the more our cheering pyramid of hope begins to sway.
Keep an eye on this space for updates.

Dare Me Season 2 Plot Predictions
The show, which analyzes the numerous elements of American society, focuses on cheerleading and high school theatre. Addy’s closest friend is Beth, who is 16 years old. On their high school cheerleading squad, all eyes are on them.
They’ve known each other since they were children, and Beth has always been the boss, with Addy as her devoted follower.
The mood transforms when a coach arrives to educate the cheerleaders; Addy learns to obey the new teacher while Beth foolishly rebels against her. Even though Addy is a difficult girl to please, she tries her hardest to wow the coach when it comes to her. She even begins to follow her around like a stalker boy.
Addy says that the coach has given her a sense of purpose in her otherwise mundane life, making her feel more alive than she has in the past. Beth, on the other hand, is not pleased. Beth is envious of Addy’s growing interest in the coach, and she wishes for her best friend to remain as loyal to her as she has always been.
The coach maintains a rigorous demeanor and expects her players to perform at their best. She recognizes the cheerleaders for who they are rather than what they appear to be. To prove her incorrect, the group eats soup and Adderall.
One night, though, everything changes. For a night of drinking, the squad gathers at the coach’s house.
Beth is the only one who isn’t there. She wants to remain at a safe distance and wait for the ideal opportunity to show itself. Everything at the academy will never be the same once Addy, Beth, and the coach are all accused of a crime.
The mystery behind Sarge Will’s death has been answered after Season 1. In other words, Season 1 wraps up the whole plot of the Dare Me novel.
As a result, the second season might pick up where the first left off, with an emphasis on the other characters (whose source material was over, but the creators still carried on with their plot arcs).
