In season two of Upload, Nathan’s (Robbie Amell) afterlife proves to be much more perplexing and chaotic than most people’s real lives… and it appears that things will only grow more convoluted.
Will they or won’t they have a romance? Check. Ex-girlfriend who won’t let go? Check. Are you a victim of a murder conspiracy perpetrated by a political puppet master bent on world conquest?
A notion that, while futuristic, irresistibly rings with the Black Mirror-style sensation that this is only minutes away from becoming a reality, and is immensely relatable even if the technology isn’t there yet? We’re going to quit saying check right now.
The dramatic end of Upload season two left us with a lot of unanswered questions and even some lives on the line. And it’s the type of life-ending situation that not even CTRL+ALT+DEL can save.
As a result, fans who binge-watched the new seven-episode season will have a lot of expectations for season three and beyond.

When can we expect the third season of Upload to be released?
There’s good news! The upload has been announced to return for a third season as of May 2022.
“Upload has become a genuine smash that continues to be one of the most-watched comedy originals on Prime Video,” Amazon’s Head of Global TV Vernon Sanders stated (via Deadline) in a statement announcing the show’s renewal. The series continues to link and stimulate inexhaustible possibilities for humanity’s and technology’s future.
“They’ve created an internationally relevant series with Greg’s particular humorous style, as well as the dynamic creative team and amazing performers, and we’re all immensely delighted to bring back another season for our consumers.”
Greg Daniels, the show’s creator, has made no secret of his desire for additional episodes, even admitting to returning to work on season three before the second season had even aired.
He was also scripting the Netflix comedy Space Force at the time, which has since been canceled.
Daniels confirmed to Collider ahead of the premiere of season two: “I’m now working on season three of the room. We’ve made it halfway. So I’m optimistic that it’ll simply keep moving ahead.
“I mean, [Prime Video] is extremely enthused about the second-season episodes, which is one of the reasons we’re in the middle of writing them… It’s a very visual-effects-heavy program, so even though we shot it before Space Force, it’ll be released a month after Space Force since the post-production process is so lengthy.
“As a result, they’re eager to get started so that season three may begin as soon as possible.”
“I’m pleased to continue the tale of Nathan and Nora and the other inhabitants of Lakeview and near-future America as they attempt to have fun and do the right thing in both the real and virtual worlds,” he said in a statement after the show’s renewal was confirmed.

However, due to key cast members taking on new projects, it is unclear when production will begin. Robbie Amell, who portrays the main character Nathan, has been cast in season three of The Witcher.
Who will be among the cast of Upload Season 3?
The upload has three major players, all of whom are expected to return.
Robbie Amell stars as Nathan, a tech whiz-turned-dead guy who is suddenly (kind of) back to life and living in a regular, non-virtual reality.
There’s also his love interest to consider. Nora (Andy Allo), is a virtual-reality worker who, on her father’s suggestion, has joined the anti-tech group The Judds. She has, however, proven to be a capable leader and is currently at the top of the anarchist movement.
Ingrid (Allegra Edwards), Nathan’s now-ex-girlfriend, isn’t done either, and she’ll go to any extent to keep him around. She spent much of season two in a tricked-out scuba suit in a bathtub, allowing her to live in Lakeview without inquiry, pretending to upload into the virtual Lakeview world to stay near to him.
If we return to Lakeview, we’re sure to see more of Kevin Bigley, who portrays Nathan’s ‘bestie’ Luke, and Owen Daniels, the long-running AI Guy whose visage can be seen all over the system.
Aleesha (Zainab Johnson), Nora’s best friend, is also likely to return, depending on her alliance in her profession as an upload angel and her connection with Nora.
What will happen in Season 3 of Upload?
Season two of Upload finishes on a cliffhanger, as we’ve previously stated when Nathan gets downloaded into a clone body constructed according to Ingrid’s specifications.
Ingrid arranged for Nathan’s body to be regrown in an exceedingly risky therapy in a desperate attempt to keep him after realizing she couldn’t continue living the upload life. It has a relatively low success rate, with just a small number of pigeons presently winning.
Nathan spends much of season two attempting to figure out why he was murdered to stop his future software, Beyond, from allowing impoverished people to upload freely.
It turns out that it’s all for political purposes. Because uploads do not have the right to vote because their lives have officially ended, a malevolent firm called Freeyond set up dozens of clinics in swing states to allow the poor and desperate to upload into a new existence – away from voting booths.
If they succeed, hundreds of crucial votes will be needed to maintain some political titans in power.
Nathan seeks aid from the Ludds and chooses to download into the body despite the risk of death to assist Nora in stopping Freeyond before it’s too late.
His scheme succeeds at first, and Nora and Nathan eventually join the Ludds aboard a train destined for Friend.
Nathan’s nose begins to bleed in the closing seconds, indicating that his new body is rejecting the downloaded soul. Ingrid also begins a new power move after realizing she’s lost him, taking hairs from his hairbrush to ostensibly create a new Nathan from the ground up.
Season three will most likely begin right after this choice, with Nathan and Nora racing against the clock to save him before it’s too late.
It’ll also be heavily political and take place outside of Lakeview, as the group decides what to do next in their attempt to overthrow Friend.
In an interview with The Wrap, Daniels said: “We’ll see if the cat is alive or dead when we open the box, just like Schrödinger’s Cat, but the cat is both living and dead right now, you know?
“As long as there’s continual enough pull forward and enough surprises, I think it could be played out in a certain number of episodes and then in a different number of episodes.”
“I have to confess, the precise intricacies of the mystery plot were something we worked out throughout a lot of conversations and planting of clues and numerous alternatives,” he continued.
“I’ll simply say that I don’t believe we’ve solved the puzzle completely. In the hopes of a third season, I’m brainstorming new material with certain writers right now.”

Meanwhile, Andy Allo has a clear vision of where she wants Nora’s tale to proceed.
In an interview with Digital Spy, she stated: “Nora being radicalized in some manner and trying to bring down the entire system is something I’d want to see. I want some action, so I’m going to go full rebel and say, “Rah, let’s burn it all down.””
“At the end of season two, I’m in a difficult position to say that,” Amell remarked. “I will say that Greg has a solid track record in this area, and I am certain that we are in excellent hands. Whatever Greg comes up with will very certainly be the best version of the program.”
Is there any footage for the third season yet?
