This month, those on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will get the maximum payments allowed. In April, all SNAP-eligible households, even those already receiving the full benefits, will receive an additional allocation.
Gov. Kathy Hochul confirmed this on Thursday, stating that the increased food benefits will total $232 million. New York has distributed approximately $696 million in additional benefits since January.
“Food insecurity is a heartbreaking prospect that no New Yorker should ever have to face,” Hochul stated in a press statement. “We can help struggling households make ends meet and keep food on the table as we continue our economic recovery from the COVID-19 catastrophe by offering the highest food aid to those in need.”
All households, including those that generally get the maximum monthly SNAP payment, are eligible for the emergency assistance bonus. By Friday, April 22, SNAP households in all counties outside of New York City should have received these additional payments. By Friday, April 29, SNAP households in the five-county New York City region should have received their payments.
