The top winners at the 2022 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday were Spider-Man: No Way Home and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, where co-hosts Miranda Cosgrove and Rob Gronkowski led the festivities, first lady Dr. Jill Biden made a special appearance, and there was no shortage of slime spilled.
The latest edition in the Spider-Man film franchise received three Orange Blimps during a ceremony held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica for the fan-voted awards program. It took home the awards for favorite film, favorite movie actor (Tom Holland), and favorite movie actress (Zendaya), who was also honored in the category for her work in the Oscar-winning film Dune.
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series was also recognized in three categories, with Olivia Rodrigo receiving favorite kids TV show, favorite female TV star (kids), and Joshua Bassett winning favorite male TV star (kids). Rodrigo also took home the award for the best new artist.
Encanto for favorite animated picture and Scarlett Johansson from Sing 2 for favorite voice from an animated voice were among the other winners.
iCarly (favorite family TV show), America’s Got Talent (favorite reality show), and SpongeBob SquarePants were among the TV winners (favorite cartoon).
Billie Eilish won two awards: best song (“Happier Than Ever”) and best album (“Happier Than Ever”) ( Happier Than Ever ). For the second year in a row, Ariana Grande was selected favorite female musician, while Ed Sheeran was named the favorite male artist.
Biden spoke to the audience during a pre-recorded skit in which she threw a container of slime toward the camera. “As a teacher, a military mom, and as your first lady, I’m impressed by the tenacity of our youth, especially our military kids, who are in the audience and watching today,” she remarked. “Continue to learn and grow while giving back to your community.”
