The Miami Heat now hold a two-game lead over the Brooklyn Nets for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, and they might face them in the first round of the playoffs.
The Nets are currently ranked eighth in the Eastern Conference, but during the league’s play-in round, they might rise to seventh.
One Eastern Conference scout, on the other hand, isn’t crazy about a Heat-Nets meeting.
In Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, the Nets have one of the best superstar duos in the NBA, but injuries and availability difficulties have put the team behind in the playoff race this season.
Durant and the Nets are a force to be reckoned with if they stay healthy, especially if guard Ben Simmons is able to play in the playoffs. As he heals from a back injury, Simmons has yet to make his Nets debut.
The Heat have won five straight games to pull away from the pack in the Eastern Conference, but it doesn’t appear they’ll be rewarded with an easy first-round opponent.
Miami’s offense is well-balanced, with six different players averaging double-digit points per game, but that may not be enough if Durant, as he has in the past, takes over postseason games.
It’s difficult to argue with the scout. In the first round, the Nets would be far more difficult to beat than a No. 7 or No. 8 seed generally is in the playoffs.
