The San Diego Padres are hoping to make a big statement before the start of the season. The organization is “expressing a lot of interest” in Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez, according to Hector Gomez of Z101 Digital.
Ramirez has been in talks with Cleveland about extending his contract this summer, but those talks have stopped.
It will be difficult to pull off a blockbuster deal in the next 24-48 hours. The Padres, on the other hand, could be able to put together an attractive package for the Guardians.
Ramirez has the versatility to play numerous positions in San Diego’s infield, so he may be a good match there. More significantly, he’d bring a player with a.266 batting average and 36 home runs to the Padres’ lineup.
Terry Francona, the manager of the Los Angeles Galaxy, recently addressed the trade speculations surrounding Ramirez. The three-time All-Star doesn’t appear to be bothered by the commotion.

“Jose has performed admirably. Francona told Cleveland.com, “He’s always fine.” “He is a baseball fanatic. That game was starting to drag a little bit last night. Even though everyone else had left the game, he was the only one who wanted to stay and obtain that fourth at-bat.”
We’ll see if the Padres can get Ramirez before the start of the season.
