The Pittsburgh Steelers’ primary objective this offseason is to extend star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick’s contract.
The contract is practically done, according to NFL Network reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, and it will make him the richest safety in the league.
Jamal Adams of the Seattle Seahawks is now the highest-paid safety in the NFL.
Adams’ contract is worth $70 million in total, with $21 million completely guaranteed and an average annual salary of $17.5 million.
Pittsburgh might also look at the contract of Justin Simmons of the Denver Broncos, who has the largest fully guaranteed deal in the league at $32.1 million.
Fitzpatrick, who is entering his fourth season with the Steelers, has established himself as one of the league’s top all-around safeties.
Fitzpatrick has 11 interceptions and two touchdowns in three seasons with the Steelers.
Fitzpatrick expanded his role as a run defender in 2021, finishing with a career-high 124 total tackles.
Fitzpatrick lost out on being chosen an All-Pro for the first time since being moved to Pittsburgh, despite having his greatest season.
